Teach however suits you

Teaching, without the parts that aren’t teaching

You didn’t get into tutoring to chase invoices or cold-message parents. We take the operational load off your plate so your time goes into lesson prep, not admin.

You set your rate

No fixed pay bands. You name your hourly rate right in your application, and we match you with families who accept it.

Your own tutor profile

Once approved, you get a public profile with your subjects, experience, and headline — so students can find and choose you directly.

Flexible scheduling

Teach two hours a week or twenty. Fit sessions around your own study, work, or family commitments.

Reliable, on-time pay

Sessions are logged and paid out on a fixed schedule, so you’re never chasing a parent for a transfer.

Real support, not a bot

A dedicated tutor success contact you can actually reach when a session needs rescheduling or a student needs support.

Online or in-person

Choose the format that fits your life — teach from home over video, or in person if that’s your preference.

What it’s actually like to teach here

I set my rate once and haven’t chased a single parent for payment since. It’s the first platform where the admin side doesn’t eat into my week.

R
Rachel T.
A-Level Maths tutor, 3 years

I teach around my own university timetable — some weeks four hours, some weeks none. Nobody’s ever pushed me to take on more than I want.

D
Daniel K.
IB Physics tutor, 1 year

My profile brought in students I never would have found on my own. I just had to show up and teach.

S
Sarah L.
IGCSE English tutor, 2 years

What we look for

We’re less interested in ticking boxes than in tutors who can actually get a student unstuck. Here’s the baseline:

  • Strong subject knowledge in the areas you want to teach, backed by relevant qualifications or experience
  • Clear, patient communication — you can explain the same concept three different ways until it lands
  • Reliable availability — even a few consistent hours a week, since students count on regular sessions
  • A genuine interest in a student’s progress, not just delivering content and logging off
  • A working device, stable internet, and a quiet space, for tutors teaching online
  • Willingness to complete a background/reference check before being matched with students

From application to your first student

No lengthy onboarding, no waiting weeks to hear back. Here’s exactly what happens after you hit submit.

Build your profile

Tell us your subjects, curricula, experience, and set your own hourly rate. Takes about ten minutes.

Quick screening call

We’ll get in touch to talk through your background, confirm your subjects, and answer any questions about how sessions and pay work.

Get matched & start teaching

Once approved, we match you with students based on your subjects and availability — and you’re ready to book your first session.

Before you apply

How much can I earn as a tutor?

You set your own hourly rate directly in the application. There’s no fixed pay band — students see and accept your rate as part of your profile, so it’s entirely up to you.

How are students matched to me?

Once approved, your subjects, curricula, and the countries you teach in form your public tutor profile, which students search and browse directly. You can also be matched to enquiries that fit your profile.

Does my profile have to be public?

It’s your choice — the application includes a simple yes/no on whether you’d like your profile to appear on The Tuition Room once approved.

Do I need formal teaching qualifications?

Not necessarily. What matters most is strong subject knowledge and the ability to explain it clearly — many of our tutors are subject specialists, current students, or professionals rather than qualified teachers.

How and when do I get paid?

Sessions are logged through the platform and paid out on a fixed schedule, so you’re never left waiting on a parent to transfer you directly.

Can I teach online, in person, or both?

Both — you tell us your preference when you apply, and we only match you with students looking for that format.

How much time do I need to commit each week?

There’s no minimum hours requirement. Some tutors teach a couple of hours a week alongside other work or study, others teach far more. You control your own schedule.
